The Charlatans Boston Concert reviews
BAND OVERPOWERING,LOUD AND FEEDBACK NOISE
The Charlatans' vocal abilities were diminished, which created some trepidation for us as we looked forward to this event. Some of the renditions and arrangements were poor, and the band was overpowering and excessively loud, overshadowing The Charlatans. It seemed like the band was competing with her rather than complementing her.
During the first part of her performance, the terrible roaring/humming noise of speaker feedback and the excessively loud band background playing made it extremely annoying and ear-popping. This also affected The Charlatans at times, as she reached for her ears momentarily.
The latter part of The Charlatans' performance was great because the band played quieter and complemented her beautifully by backing off the excessively loud playing.
The excessive noise problems may have been caused by the theater's acoustics, or perhaps the band thought they needed to play loudly for the audience in the far reaches of the seating area. A sound check and input from the audience could have helped prevent this issue.
Without information on the cause of the excessive noise and loudness, I have decided not to attend another concert with this band or at the Chicago Theater.
